ICBC (Asia) Youth Creative Design Award


About the Award

The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Asia), or ("ICBC (Asia)"), the Hong Kong Design Institute ("HKDI") and the Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology ("HKIIT") are jointly launching the ICBC (Asia) Youth Creative Design Award (the "Competition") to provide students with a platform to showcase their design talents, while integrating elements of promoting the growth of the financial sector, empowering youth, and supporting the design industry.


HKDI and HKIIT students are invited to submit the design of a mascot for ICBC (Asia), incorporating elements of finance and youth-driven design. The winning design will be awarded a HK$ 200,000 scholarship and will be adopted as ICBC (Asia)'s official mascot for upcoming campaigns.

Eligibility

• Students from HKDI and HKIIT

• Individual or team participation (2 persons) is allowed

Design Guidelines

  1. The design must uniquely represent ICBC (Asia) while incorporate the ICBC (Asia) brand slogan “Your Global Partner, Your Reliable Bank”, and be able to represent the essent of ICBC (Asia) while to present the concept of the Hong Kong culture.
  2. The design should reflect a professional yet cute image, adaptable to various costumes or themes to suit different occasions, as there may be situations where ICBC (Asia) logo are displayed together.
  3. In order to encourage creativity and innovation, the design of mascot should be able to communicate with people and humanised object.
  4. The entry must include the name of mascot and elaboration of the idea in both Chinese and English.
  5. The entry must not infringe any intellectual property rights, including but not limited to using or including images, photographs, persons, trademarks, distinctive features, wordings, or other elements, for which the participant does not have the license and for which he/she cannot provide a license to use, publish, reproduce, or print.
  6. The design must be original, have neither been openly shown, and publicized in any other media platform, nor submitted for other competitions.
  7. If you have used generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) to assist in the design, the GenAI output(s) must be provided and the participant must describe clearly the participant's input and/or contributions.

Submission Requirements

  1. Individual or team participation (2 persons) is allowed.
  2. Each individual/team can only submit one entry.
  3. Each entry must include a brief description (no more than 300 words in Chinese, and no more than 500 words in English), illustrating the design concept.
  4. No application fee is applied.
  5. The participants are advised to retain a duplicate copy of their submissions in case of any unforeseen conditions which may lead to the loss or damage of the entries.
  6. All entries must not have been submitted for any other competition or provided to any party for any purpose before submitting to us.
  7. The ICBC (Asia) accepts no responsibility for any data submission delay, loss, error, non-recognising etc. situations due to computer, network, and other technical issues. The proof of dispatch cannot be accepted as proof of delivery or successful transmission of the entry. All participants in the Competition participate on a voluntary basis. The ICBC (Asia) will be exempted from all legal liability, compensation, and responsibility that the competition may cause and/or the prize.
  8. For shortlisted entries, the entrant might have to agree to transfer the copyright of your design to ICBC (Asia) so that your design can be used, edited and/or modified as deemed fit.
  9. You must declare any conflicts of interest to avoid any dispute. This includes disclosing any relationships you may have with the judges, among other relevant factors.
  10. The decision by ICBC (Asia) of the mascot in all matters relating to ICBC (Asia) Youth Creative Design Award, including whether the winning submission will be adopted as the mascot, is final.
  11. ICBC (Asia) reserves the right to cancel the award at any time or terminate the receipt of entries, and to select the winners from the eligible entries prior to the date of cancellation or termination of the event.
  12. Should there be any dispute, ICBC (Asia) shall reserve the right of final decision.
  13. The decision of the Adjudicators on the winning entries is final. There is no appeal mechanism in this competition.

The Panel will assess and judge the submission according to the following criteria:
1. Presentation of Ideas 30%
2. Aesthetic Quality and Composition 30%
3. Creativity and Originality 40%

Submission Formats

  1. All entries must be presented in PDF format. The mascot design must be in high resolution.
  2. Entries of scanned or photographed hand-drawn works will not be accepted.
  3. Editable digital files in vector format (i.e. ai/png/jpg, etc.) of the awarded entries will be requested at a later date.
  4. All submission should include
  1. 3D image. The entry must include 4 sides (Front, Back, Left and Right)
  2. The name of mascot and elaboration of the idea (no more than 300 words in Chinese, and no more than 500 words in English)
  3. Credit card front design
  4. An image layout for Facebook post

Intellectual Property Rights

All participants who submit entries to the Competition, agree to assign the exclusive intellectual property rights of the winning designs to ICBC (Asia).

By the act of entering the submission, each eligible participant is assigned a perpetual, royalty-free, unlimited, unconditional use, and reproduction rights of his/her submission(s) to ICBC (Asia).

All submissions must be original and free from infringement of any existing intellectual property rights.

The participants shall bear full legal and related responsibilities arising from any possible breach of intellectual property rights in respect of their entries and shall indemnify ICBC (Asia) and other concerned parties against any claims and liabilities arising from any such breach.

If a participant is found to have disposed of to a third party, such as by assignment, transfer or provision as security, or is making application or registration procedures, etc., for all or any part of the intellectual property rights or any other rights concerning the submitted entry after the submission, the submission will be made invalid.

The winning designs are subject to investigations regarding originality and eligibility for trademark registration. If they do not comply with the requirement, ICBC (Asia) has the discretion to forfeit the prizes involved without any liability to the selected participants or any other persons, and other entries may be selected as the winning designs.

ICBC (Asia) shall not be obliged to accept or approve any entry, should they consider that none of the entries submitted is appropriate.

When the design is adopted, ICBC (Asia) reserves the right to modify the winning design of mascot professionally and/or develop different versions of the mascot with relation to its colours, size, form, resolution, and all other features, with or without the consent of the creator of the winning entry.

By joining the Competition, the participants agree to accept that ICBC (Asia) has the right to display or publish selected designs from the Competition for the following purposes: (i) printed publication; (ii) online publication; and (iii) promotion of ICBC (Asia) in any other media.

Important Notes

ICBC (Asia) may polish and modify the winning entry and adopt it as the official mascot of ICBC (Asia). The official mascot will be published on all relevant promotional materials.

Use of Personal Information

Any information supplied by the participants for the purpose of the Competition will be treated as confidential and will not be released by HKDI, HKIIT and any third parties without the participant's permission. The personal information of participants will only be used for communications regarding the submission and selection and otherwise to the extent necessary for administrative matters for the selection.

Others

Decisions made by the panel of judges shall be final. Any objection of the participants will not be considered. In case of any dispute, ICBC (Asia) reserves the final decision, including the right to suspend, change or terminate the Competition and any of its terms and conditions without prior notice.
